Frequently asked questions
- How do I get a passport photo under 50 KB?
- Upload your photo, pick the 'Passport / visa' preset (which sets 600×600 px and a 50 KB target), drag the crop window to frame your face, then click 'Resize & export'. The tool auto-finds the highest JPEG quality that fits under 50 KB.
- What is the difference between 'Crop to fill' and 'Fit with letterbox'?
- 'Crop to fill' scales the image so it covers the entire output area, then lets you drag to reposition which part is visible — no white bars, but some edges may be trimmed. 'Fit with letterbox' scales the image to fit entirely inside the output area and pads the remaining space with white, so nothing is cropped.
- Is my image uploaded anywhere?
- No. The entire resize and crop operation runs in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.
- Can I resize a PNG and keep the transparency?
- Yes — choose PNG as the output format. JPEG does not support transparency, so if you export as JPEG, transparent areas will become white.
- Why does the file-size mode always output JPEG?
- File-size targeting uses JPEG quality compression because PNG is always lossless — there is no quality knob to dial down. WebP works similarly but browser support for encoding varies slightly, so JPEG is the most reliable choice for guaranteeing an exact size target.
- What is the maximum output size?
- The tool caps output dimensions at 8000×8000 px, which is well above anything needed for documents or social media.
